The country today

Mauritania has moved from frontier status to a producing and developing hydrocarbon player over the past decade. The Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) cross-border gas project with Senegal is the flagship development, and recent deepwater discoveries have added an oil dimension. The country needs infrastructure, services and technology partners that can operate in a harsh offshore environment with limited local supply chain depth.

Energy — oil and gas

GTA is a world-scale gas development straddling the Mauritania–Senegal maritime boundary. Beyond GTA, exploration success offshore has opened a new oil narrative. The priority needs are subsea infrastructure, offshore logistics, gas processing and local-content development. Onshore, the country also has significant renewable-energy potential and a nascent mining logistics corridor.

The regulatory framework is still maturing. The national oil company is building capability, and major project decisions are concentrated in the Presidency and key ministries.
